Teresa says:

“Super laser works on all skin types but is especially amazing for anyone who has a pretty low pain threshold as it’s gentler than IPL.”

What is Super Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is great for anyone fed up of waxing, ingrown hairs, painful plucking or bleaching, or those who suffer from sensitive skin after shaving. At Teresa Tarmey, we use the Soprano laser. It’s one of the safest laser hair removal treatments on the market and can remove hair from anywhere on the body. Unlike many lasers out there, this one suits pretty much every skin type and skin tone.

How does Super Laser Hair Removal work?

After we cover the skin a thick cold gel to protect the skin, the laser light will be passed over the area multiple times. The laser safely passes through skin and seeks out the hair root by identifying the pigment. The heat from the laser destroys hair follicles at their base, meaning they’re no longer able to produce hair.

The need to knows:

Before your first treatment, you need to book in for a patch test, during which we’ll talk you through the entire laser hair removal process. The laser only works during the anagen (or growing) phase of the hair growth cycle, and therefore multiple treatments are needed at regularly spaced intervals to treat all of the hair in your chosen area. You’ll notice a reduction in hair after the first session, but it typically takes a course of 6-8 treatments, spaced 4-8 weeks apart to stop the hair from growing. It is also worth noting that dormant hair follicles can become active years later, so you might need to book in for top up maintenance sessions after you’ve completed your full treatment program.

Does Super Laser Hair Removal hurt?

Thanks to its DualChillTM Treatment tip that keeps skin cool at all times, the Soprano laser is pretty painless, although you may feel some mild discomfort as the laser penetrates the hair follicle—it feels a little like a warm pin prick.

What are the after-effects?

After laser hair removal, you may experience some immediate redness and swelling of hair follicles, but it will last no longer than 24 hours. You should avoid direct sunlight, and limit exposure to very hot showers, saunas, jacuzzis and swimming pools (to avoid infection). Anywhere between 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of treated hair may occur, but note, this is not new hair growth.
