Beauty Discovery: Teresa Tarmey
NESTLED between the boutiques and cafés of Redchurch Street, an industrial metal door decorated by the hand of local graffiti artists hides east London’s best-kept beauty secret. In stark contrast to the urban exterior, Teresa Tarmey’s beauty destination is a sanctuary from the toils of city life, offering very affordable facials, body treatments, manicures and hair removal in the most pleasant of settings.
It’s little surprise to learn that many London’s most photographed girls – including Daisy Lowe, Suki Waterhouse, Tallulah Harlech and Portia Freeman – make regular trips to Tarmey to ensure they are always camera-ready. Opening up her private home, Tarmey offers total seclusion as well as utter comfort – chandeliers light the space where guests can lounge on the luxurious velvet sofas, read magazines or watch films as they are pampered in peace. Margot Bowman artwork hangs from the walls and green tea – or for those who wish to indulge further, champagne – is never far from reach.
Specialising in Soprano laser treatments, Tarmey explains: “The technique is unlike traditional IPL laser and is delightfully pain-free, and with a course of treatment will leave you virtually hair-free. Plus, it can also be used to treat thread veins.” With 15 years of experience under her belt, including at a Harley Street salon, Tarmey has a fastidious approach to skincare. “The skin is a very clever organ and the signs of ageing will creep up quicker for some than others. I have four simple rules that everyone should follow: eat healthily, drink plenty of water, don’t smoke and do not put your face in the sun without a factor 50+. If I could choose just one product and no other it would be a sun protector such as SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral UV Defense SPF 50.”
Only a stone’s throw from Shoreditch House, it’s unlikely Suki and Tallulah’s beauty outpost will remain a secret for long.
