The Hollywood facial favoured by Emily Ratajkowski

Behind the red carpet: The pre-Oscars facial the A-list love. The Hollywood facial favoured by Emily Ratajkowski features radiofrequency and cryotherapy.

Increasingly, recognition is being given to not only the hair and make-up artists forming the red carpet glam squads, but the facialists too.

One influential skincare expert who works with A-listers before big red carpet appearances is London’s own Teresa Tarmey, having yesterday helped the likes of Emily Ratajkowski get Oscars-ready.

From a home in the Hollywood Hills she performed her Ultimate TT Facial, which is all about granting a glowing, lifted and sculpted face (see Ratajkowski as your poster girl).

“First I double-cleansed with the Laura Mercier Balancing Crème Cleanser,” she tells Bazaar. This gentle formula helps hydrate the skin while balancing moisture levels.

“Next, I used my Lactic Acid to brighten,” she adds. This is Tarmey’s gentle exfoliating toner, which unlike some stronger acids is suitable for all skin types, and causes no redness or inflammation.

Then came the tech and tools: “I used the Venus radiofrequency machine to really tighten the skin,” she reveals. The treatment equivalent to a contouring palette, radiofrequency can soften fine lines while sharpening the facial contours – both immediately and over time by stimulating one’s own collagen production.

A favourite amongst the A-list (Jennifer Aniston credits radiofrequency facials with keeping her skin “lifted”), it’s a great, non-invasive alternative to fillers when done regularly.

On Ratajkowski, Tarmey then used her ice-cold Cryo-Ball–which constricts the blood vessels to make everything tighter–”to sculpt the face further,” followed by a manual facial massage.

“I applied my replenishing peptide treatment and gave a strong massage to plump and brighten the skin,” she says, noting that “by relaxing the jaw with massage, it helps to lift the lower half of the face”.

So yes, it’s safe to say that famous faces have many to thank for their flawless appearance. From massage to machinery, there’s more to sculpted skin than make-up.

Luckily, Tarmey offers her facials here, too, so before a big event you can have the hands-on–meets–high-tech treatment yourself. See more in our round-up of the best facials, as recommended by the Bazaar beauty team.
